Public speaking is an essential skill that holds potential individuals into confident communicators and influential leaders. Understanding the impact of cultivating good public speaking skills, the Professional Development Avenue of the Rotaract Club of SLIIT kicked off Phase 3 of the Stride project: ‘Eloquence.’ This was a highly anticipated speech competition that aimed to instill and enhance public speaking skills among the enthusiastic participants. 

Delving into the details of this exciting project that took place from the 3^rd of March to the 7^th of April, 2023, Project Eloquence took place in two phases. Phase 1 was the selection process and it was held virtually through Zoom and Google Meet on the 25^th of March. The Zoom session, hosted by Rtr. Sulakna Weerasinghe, and the Google Meet session, hosted by the SLIIT Gavel Club President, Sayuru Rehan, provided participants with multiple opportunities to showcase their public speaking skills. With a distinguished panel of judges and an impressive number of participants, Phase 1 witnessed inspiring speeches, each reflecting the unique perspectives of the competitors. Eight finalists were selected to proceed to the next round, after an exciting and vigorous competition.

Phase 2 was the grand final where the contestants were asked to deliver their speeches live, in front of a panel of three judges. The audience of enthusiastic attendees provided an encouraging atmosphere, and ignited the passion of the participants, leaving them no chance to be nervous. After careful deliberation, the judges crowned three winners, recognizing their exceptional talent to connect, inspire and captivate the audience. The first-place winner of Eloquence 2023 received a trophy, a certificate of accomplishment, and a cash prize of 10,000 rupees. Furthermore, all participants were awarded e-certificates, acknowledging their participation. This recognition stands as a testament to their dedication to mastering the art of public speaking.
