Yuthukama: Transforming Lives, One Project at a Time

In a world where education is the key to unlocking a brighter future, the Rotaract Club of SLIIT embarked on a journey to make a meaningful impact in the lives of underprivileged students. Their initiative, Project Yuthukama, was not just a project; it was a beacon of hope, a testament to the power of community service, and a symbol of the transformative impact of education.

The project began with a simple request for help, a plea for support from Doranegama Maha Vidyalaya and President’s College Homagama. These schools were facing challenges, from the need for computers to the lack of proper sanitation facilities. Determined to make a difference, the Community Service Avenue of  Rotaract Club of SLIIT sprung into action, dividing the project into four main phases: Digital Dreams, Saviya, Suwatha, and Mathaka Poth.

Digital Dreams aimed to bridge the digital divide by donating computers to these schools, empowering students with the tools for a modern education. Saviya focused on rejuvenating Doranegama Maha Vidyalaya through a school painting initiative, while Suwatha sought to improve the school’s washroom facilities. Finally, Mathaka Poth aimed to elevate the educational landscape by setting up a library at Doranegama Maha Vidyalaya.

The impact of Project Yuthukama was profound. On May 25th, Rotaractors visited Doranegama Maha Vidyalaya to donate these resources. The visit was met with a warm welcome, showcasing the talents of the students. Additionally, essential school items were distributed to all students, further enhancing their educational experience.

The impact of Project Yuthukama extended far beyond the physical donations. It was about empowering students, providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed. It was about building a sense of community, bringing together students, teachers, parents, and community members to work towards a common goal. Most importantly, it was about inspiring hope, showing these students that they are not forgotten, that there are people who care about their future.

As the students of Doranegama Maha Vidyalaya and President’s College Homagama begin a new chapter with their enhanced educational facilities, they do so with a renewed sense of hope and possibility. And for the Rotaract Club of SLIIT, Project Yuthukama is not just a project that has come to an end; it is a legacy of compassion, generosity, and a commitment to making the world a better place, one initiative at a time.
