Introduction to Poetry
I ask them to take a poem
and hold it up to the light
like a color slide
or press an ear against its hive.
I say drop a mouse into a poem
and watch him probe his way out,
or walk inside the poem’s room
and feel the walls for a light switch.
I want them to waterski
across the surface of a poem
waving at the author’s name on the shore.
But all they want to do
is tie the poem to a chair with rope
and torture a confession out of it.
They begin beating it with a hose
to find out what it really means.
Every year, on March 21st, the world comes together to celebrate poetry; a language of the heart that speaks to our deepest emotions. Poetry is more than just words on a page; it is love, hope, sorrow, and joy woven into verses that touch our souls.
In a world that rushes by, poetry reminds us to pause, feel, and reflect. A single poem can capture a lifetime of emotions in just a few lines, bringing comfort, inspiration, and connection.
On this World Poetry Day, let’s cherish the beauty of poetry; the power of a simple rhyme, the magic of a heartfelt verse. Whether you write, read, or simply listen, let poetry fill your heart today. Pick up a poem, pen your own, and celebrate the timeless beauty of words that move us.
