When Rain, Rivalry and Cricket collided

On 28^th September, the long-awaited Clash of Avenues finally unfolded at the Nawinna grounds, Maharagama. The excitement was tangible, but like every great story, this one started off with a touch of drama, with some rain clouds threatening to wash away weeks of anticipation. As hope of glory was starting to drain and spirits began to fade, the sun decided to make it to the show, lighting up the field like a spotlight, and we got to work.

When we say cricket, it’s not just about the game.

Cricket is about teamwork, unity and true sportsmanship that shines brighter than any trophy.

Our teams decided to join forces to turn the lake-like pitch into a playable turf and, somehow, with determination gleaming in every eye, we managed to start the game just an hour later at 11:00 AM.

I guess miracles really do happen!

A total of six teams took to the field, each featuring five boys and a girl – a perfect blend of strength, strategy, and spirit. They had the privilege of bringing their so-called “hidden” cricket talents to light. Let’s just say they weren’t as hidden as they claimed to be.

The field came alive with fiery, competitive, brilliant and hilarious moments on the field. After several thrilling, nail-biting rounds, the Executive Committee, Community Service avenue, Tehan’s, and Sports avenue teams rose to the top, securing their places in the much-awaited SUPER FOUR.

From there on, the energy only intensified. The Sports team went on what can only be described as a demolishing spree, viciously taking down both the Executive committee and Community Service back-to-back, securing their place in finals. Their opponents? None other than Tehan’s team, who were equally determined, matched their energy with equal strength. What followed was nothing short of a spectacle – it was a heart-stopping thriller, watching both sides battling under the fading light of the evening. Every run scored, every wicket taken, drew thunderous cheers from the sidelines.

After an intense battle of grit, skill, and spirit, Tehan’s team emerged triumphant, clinching the sweet victory by the narrowest of margins. Surrounded by cheers, awards and laughter, Tehan’s team sealed their place as the Clash of Avenues champions 2025 – a title well-earned which we will constantly be reminded of by Tehan himself.

As the sun set and the cheers gradually faded into the twilight, the day wrapped up not just as a competition, but as a celebration filled with energy, friendly rivalry and fun.

It wasn’t just about cricket; it was about teamwork, spirit and the unforgettable memories that will be cherished for years to come.
