What if education didn’t stop at borders?
What if a simple notebook could travel miles to reach a child who needed it most?
Kindle Voyage was born from that very belief. Initiated by the Rotaract Club of SLIIT (RID 3220), this international service initiative was more than a project—it was a journey of hope, friendship, and action. Over three meaningful phases, young leaders came together to support underprivileged students, spark cross-border connections, and show that when youth lead with purpose, borders simply disappear.
Phase 01- Where the journey found its purpose
It marked the official beginning of kindle voyage which was held on 24th November 2025 and set a strong foundation for the intiative.
The first stop was Shri Shivramji Kamnapure Jr. College & High School in Nagpur, India. In a single classroom, a group of students sat quietly, their eyes filled with hope and anticipation.
For many of them, learning had always come with limitations, not because of a lack of ability, but because of a lack of resources. A missing notebook here. A shared pen there. Small things, with big consequences.
That day, Kindle Voyage found its footing.
As part of this initiative, International Service Co-Director, Rtr. Heshanya Wijedasa travelled to Nagpur, India. In partnership with the Rotaract Club of Yeshwantrao Chavan College of Engineering (YCCE) (RID 3030), the Rotaract Club of SLIIT carefully planned, packed, and delivered stationery to these young learners.
That day, the classroom wasn’t just filled with books, it was buzzing with excitement. Smiles lit up faces, conversations came alive, and hope took root. A simple letterhead exchange marked the start of a friendship between clubs, and perhaps, between countries.
Phase One ended not with a full stop, but with a promise: this was just the beginning.
Phase 02 – When service turned into stories
If Phase One gave Kindle Voyage its purpose, Phase Two gave it a soul.
On 20th December 2025, our team arrived in Chennai, India, ready to blend service with culture and fellowship. From breakfast conversations to walks past iconic landmarks like Valluvar Kottam and Fort St. George, every moment built memories.
At MSSW, the heart of the day unfolded. Professional Development Co-Director, Rtr. Suvasthiga Suveendran led the coordination, ensuring donations of sanitary pads and personal care items reached young girls under eighteen. Time was spent laughing, playing games, and sharing small joys that made a big difference. Letterhead exchanges, gifts, and cultural immersion strengthened bonds between the Rotaract Club of Akash (RID 3233), Rotaract club of Madras School of Social Work (MSSW) (RID 3233), and Rotaract Club of SLIIT (RID 3220).
As evening arrived, the journey paused inside a beautifully recreated 1960s movie set, reminding everyone that stories, past and present, shape who we become.
Phase 03 : Where the Voyage Grew Wings
The final chapter took us beyond India, to Bali, Indonesia, on 24th December 2025. At SD Negeri 3 Banyuning School, children aged six to ten welcomed us with bright smiles and curious minds.
With International Service Co-Director, Rtr. Senadi Gamage leading the initiative on the ground in Bali, turning plans into meaningful action. We created interactive English sessions, educational games, and cultural exchanges. Stationery, storybooks, and water bottles weren’t just gifts, they were symbols of encouragement, care, and belief in every child’s potential.
That day wasn’t just about giving, it was about learning, growing, and inspiring. In partnership with the Rotaract Club of Bali Buleleng Sakthi (RID 3420), moments of fellowship, traditional food sharing, and formal exchanges strengthened cross-border connections.
This chapter didn’t need many words. Its meaning was already clear.
Kindle Voyage was never meant to be a checklist or a one-time act. It was designed as a living journey: one that changes everyone it touches, even slightly.
