ROTALLIANCE

Rotalliance was not just a day out it was a moment of beautiful fellowship between the Rotaract Club of SLIIT and the Interact Club of Richmond College.

Fifteen members from SLIIT took a van down to Galle, and you can already imagine how energetic that ride must have been. The drive there was anything but quiet, filled with laughter and nonstop conversations. Together with 10 members from Richmond this day was all about having fun.

The fellowship began with a friendly game of cricket, and as Sri Lankans, who doesn’t love a good match? It was full of loud cheers, dramatic celebrations, and playful competitiveness. There might have been two clubs at the start of the game but by the time it ended it felt like one big happy team.

This was followed by the compulsory icebreaker session. It wasn’t just an activity, it was a bonding moment.

Soon after, we headed to Unawatuna Beach, which many would say was the highlight. Building sandcastles like little kids with big imaginations, running into the water, and forgetting about daily stress, you could say that it felt like an escape from daily routine. Around 6 pm, we made our way to Galle Fort. It was a slow stroll, perhaps because everyone was enjoying it or maybe it was because of the endless pictures (probably more than necessary). However it was impossible not to enjoy the view and calming breeze.

Of course, no trip is complete without a spontaneous decision. On the way back home, someone decided we needed dessert, because it was simply not right to end such an amazing day without something sweet. And that’s how we found ourselves stopping for ice cream at 12 am, as if it was the most important decision of the day.

The journey back was just as lively, fitting the happenings of such an enjoyable day of guitar playing, singing and loud cheering all the way home.

Rotalliance wasn’t about anything grand or fancy. Rather it was about the simple joys, cricket, the beach, good food, and even better company. Yet it turned into the kind of day you replay in your head later and smile about.
