World Friendship Day Celebration 2017

World Friendship Day Celebration, organized by Rotaract District 3220 happened on the 30th of July 2017 at Cafe Mocha by Barista. It was a small gathering to celebrate World Friendship Day 2017 in style and to engage in Rotaract and celebrate the day while redefining Friendship!

The event started at about 10 a.m. and went on for 3 hours. Many rotaractors from different clubs gathered together on this Sunday to celebrate friendship. Each rotaractor had to bring their Rotaract bff along with them.

It was a fun filled day with many activities. The event started off with a video introducing the world friendship day. Then, DRR Rtr. Anuradha Senanayaka, spoke about the friendship day, her ideas about friendship and about her Rotaract bffs while highlighting this year’s theme ‘Engage Rotaract- Redefine Friendship’ and how Rotaract promotes friendship to make new friends.

Then an interactive session was followed up. It was a round robin session (like in toastmasters). Each rotaractor had to speak about their Rotaract bff in brief, starting with the word, the previous rotaractor ended their sentence with. But we all had to replace the word ‘friend’ with the word ‘coconut’ when speaking about our friend. This activity was truly fun. They spoke about how they met their friends, their mischiefs together, bad times, good times, and many more.

Two celebrity best friends, Gaminda Priyaviraj and Suneth Chithrananda also known as Podi Malli and Chooti Malli, lifelong friends and work partners, spoke about their friendship. They specially mentioned about how to sustain a good friendship, trust, loyalty and being with each other at all times.

Next, a video was played, showing the pictures and participation of the social media campaign MyRotaractBFF which was carried out by the District. Then, gifts were given out to the 3 winning duos of the MyRotaractBFF campaign.

Three of the former Rotaract bffs came and spoke about their friendship and how it grew through Rotaract.

The event was concluded with gift tokens given out to the speakers, organizers and main figures behind the success of the project.

The bffs didn’t forget to buy a coffee or something to eat from Café Mocha as well before they went home as an appreciation for the venue.
