On the 11th of August, we; SLIIT Rotaractors planned to have a mojito stall in order to raise funds for the project “Shining Bright” which is a signature community service project organised by our own Rotaract club. The mojito stall was co-chaired by Rtr. Chamini Ellawala, Rtr. Dhanushika Ranawaka and Rtr. Duleesha Waidyarathne and our target crowd was the people who came to watch singing auditions of SLIIT Got Talent.
The selection of what to sell was indeed a struggle we went through. First it was a mojito stall but then again there was that question whether we could make enough sales. So, we went for ice-cream because everyone loves ice-cream regardless of time, venue or gender. We planned everything and dreamt about selling ice-cream and about the leftovers. But in the evening, we got to know that some other people were planning to do an ice-cream stall. So, we thought of selling popcorn which would be good for our singers’ throats as well. But the cost of the popcorn machine was too much to afford so we went ahead with our first plan; the mojito stall.
We bought the necessary ingredients from the super market and arranged our stall in the morning with the help of Bhanuka ayya and Navindu ayya. If not for them we would be selling just sprite but not mojito. The stall was opened from 11.00am onwards at SLIIT auditorium lobby area and we served freshly made virgin mojitos prepared by ourselves. Our sales went well and at the end of the day we managed to earn a little profit too.
We would like to thank everyone who helped us and of course we’re not forgetting our lovely customers if not for you this fund-raising project wouldn’t be a success.
