On a lovely day in December a group of people gathered around in a place for something special. To be precise it was 10th of December 2017, the Christmas season, Rotaract club of SLIIT in collaboration with ‘5he Ekamuthuwa’ had organized a lovely day for the children at ‘Apeksha’ hospital, Maharagama. The event was named “Maharagamata Naththal”. A bus arrived from Ratnapura with the lovely people of ‘5 he ekemuthuwa’ along with a lot of goods to be handed over to children as well as to the hospital.
The event was planned to start in the morning with ‘pirith’. For this purpose ven. Athulasena Thero arrived. ‘Pirith’ started around 9:00 a.m. This went for about an hour. Then came the loveliest time. The children came down to the play house with their parents. A lot of events were organized to bring joy to these little fellows. Songs from the children movies were playing in the background. Seasonal hats were given to them, and they wore those hats beautifully.
Then started the first game. For this, tables were laid out in different places in the play house beneath the greeny trees. Then the children were seated around these tables. A pile of paper was given to them. The instructions given was to dress on their own using only the paper. The children then started tearing those paper making clothes, jewelries, crowns, etc.
Then came the Santa clause!!!! Oh, and with lots of gifts.
The gifts were given to the children by Santa himself. Everyone was given a gift. Then there was something entertaining!! A dance of course. Three lovely girls from the ‘5 he ekemuthuwa’ started dancing to the song “Hadakarai dangakarai” and for our surprise some of the children joined them as well.
Then there was the game ‘musical hat’… yaaaaay … who doesn’t love musical hat. These children should not be exhausted by the activities so they were seated in a circle and then the hat was passed along. The game was a little different because everyone who got out got a gift from the Santa!! 🙂
The next item was an origami session. Everyone was gathered around one table. They were taught how to make a beautiful butterfly. Then they were given a box of crayons to colour it as well. The kids had a good time bending with us, talking with us. But then they had to leave as they needed their rest. This went on throughout the whole morning. All this time, people joined us by donating milk packets and medicine for the children.
At around 1.30 P.M. we all went to the CCC house to give those donations to the children. There were lots of items such as milk packets, books for the children, bed sheets, pillow cases and a lot more.
The project chairperson Rtr. Virajith Lakshitha had done a really good job organizing this event. We salute him for the great work done.
