A Project to give a hope for the affected communities of recent floods and landslides.
The southwest monsoon weather conditions have caused rainfalls since 19th May 2018 in the southwest parts of the island. By 21st of May, the precipitation triggered a flood and landslide situation in the country, which has affected thousands of lives and livelihoods, as well as caused property damage. Over 80,000 people have now been affected by floods in Sri Lanka, according to disaster management officials.
Project HOPE was a great step taken by the Rotaract Club of USJP in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of SLIIT and Rotary Club of Battaramulla to donate basic necessities for those who are living in affected areas.
The project was promoted on social media since it was the most immediate and effective way to announce our relief fund to the community.
People could get involved in helping flood victims with monetary donations and donating the essential items such as dry rations, sanitary items and water bottles since water sources have been contaminated.
The donation centers were functioned from the 25th of May onwards and there were two collection points located at Japura and SLIIT to collect donations.
Through the donations we were able to provide real help to people affected by flood and that would surely make a difference to those who are living in affected areas.
