At this day and age, in over three-quarter of the countries in the world, religion differences have been used as a mode of discriminating people. Thus, the Rotaract Club of Colombo Central and Rotaract Club of SLIIT initiated the project “Sahajeewana”, an initiative aimed at providing and promoting the essence of the main religions existing in Sri Lanka, held on the 15th of December from 9.00 a.m. onwards.
This is a significant milestone for all of us since each of us are either born into or raised up in varied religious backgrounds engraved in our hearts, but the opportunity to visit other religious places and apprehend their religious procedures and teachings is quite a rare scenario.
The phases of the project consisted of the following;
- First Phase: Kadiresaran Kovil
- Second Phase: St. Mary’s Church
- Third Phase: Bambalapitiya Muslim Mosque (Buller’s Road)
- Fourth Phase: Meththaramaya Viharaya
These phases articulated the themes of learning and understanding Hindu, Christianity, Islamic and Buddhist religious procedures. After the religious proceedings, the Rotaractors didn’t forget to clean the premises. Each phase was concluded after a tree plantation program. On this day we saw many Rotaractors coming together as one with the sole intention of comprehending one another’s spiritual beliefs.
