It has been a wonderful experience joining the Rotaract Club of SLIIT to organize The Taffeta Path for members of our club. We have experienced a lot which we could not have tried without the help of the Rotaract Club of SLIIT. From trees planting to volunteering teaching and from elderly home visits to beach clean-up, though the services are not new to us, the experience of the services is totally different from what we do in Hong Kong. Playing with fireworks at the beach as new year celebrations is another eye-opening experience for us, though some of us are frightened by the fireworks at first, we do see this as an opportunity to try out new things. Apart from the service and the celebration, all of us are more than amazed by the cultural exchange part and the scavenger hunt. Seeing the effort paid in preparing for the show and the food, we are just stunned by how well-prepared the show was. We have never imagined that village lives are like that in Sri Lanka and we have no chance of learning those culture in Hong Kong without the preparation by you guys.

Others say travelling widens one’s horizons, but I would say with you guys’ well-organized activities, this service trip definitely allows us to know more about the other part of the world. After some visits to some relatively poorer districts and looking back into what we have in Hong Kong, we learnt to be more thankful for what we have. A few days of services might not be enough for us to deeply and thoroughly understand the situation and problems in Sri Lanka, but at least with our little effort, we are able to spread some love to the community. Keeping the motto “To serve, to learn, to lead” in mind, this trip lightens up our passion to serve others. Bringing our experiences in Sri Lanka, and through the exchange in ideas of activities, we will continue with our service in Hong Kong and add new elements into it by referring to successful projects organized by Rotaract Club of SLIIT in Sri Lanka.
