“Card Chronicles” was a creative contest initiated by the Rotaract Club of Colombo Central which took place on the 11th of November 2018 at ‘Coco Spaces’. It was a fun filled experience for both Rotaractors and non Rotaractors. On behalf of the Rotaract club of SLIIT, President Sethil Muhandiram, Treasurer Tharoon Madusanka, fellow Rotaractor Chamath de Silva and Vinuri Ramanayake(myself) participated for the event.
The event started at around 10 AM. Being a card fanatic myself, I was really excited to be a part of this occasion. As we arrived, we could see the enthusiasm of all the participants, waiting for an afternoon full of excitement. The event was arranged for the popular card games namely, Omi and 304. Omi was played under the standard Omi rules but each table was given only a 30 minutes of time to play due to the limited time available. The winners were decided by the pair who won the most number of tokens at the end of the time given. The games began after Rtr. Nipun Peiris briefed in about the rules and regulations. It was one of the most intense games of cards I’ve ever played because we had only 30 minutes to collect the most number of tokens to win. After the first round, Hasitha Sandaruwan; a young talented illusionist, entertained the participants by pulling off amazing card tricks. After that, the final rounds for the contestants were commenced.
The event successfully concluded at around 3pm. Team “Masterminds” from the Rotaract Club of Wellawatta secured the first place while the team “Card Kudu” of RAC CIRP made it to be the runner-up. Even though we couldn’t make it to the final stage of the game, we had a great deal of time playing cards and getting to know new friends who had the same interest as ourselves. The credit of success of the event goes out to RACCC, for oraganizing such a great club service project where everyone who came enjoyed a lot.
