Christmas is a joyous time where we share gifts with each other, spend time with our families and enjoy a good meal. But is this the real meaning of Christmas? While we enjoy the magic of the season, we should also not forget that there are plenty of people around us who are less fortunate, especially due to the recent economic collapse of the country and the high inflation. Many families are suffering, and some are even unable to afford two meals a day. Even though parents sacrifice many things to try and provide for their children, it’s still not enough, and they are exhausted. Celebrating Christmas is just a dream for many of them. So, we wanted to provide some relief for them during this festive season in whichever we can bring joy and happiness and to make sure the true meaning of Christmas lives on. This year, for the 4th consecutive time, the Rotaract Club of SLIIT organized the project “Christmas for Everyone” with the sole purpose of helping communities in need that are mostly overlooked.
With ‘Christmas for Everyone,’ we focused on communities in need based in Lunawa area, near Moratuwa. With the help of Father Sameera, who is the parish priest of St. Peter’s and St. Paul’s Churches, we were able to distribute stationary items, sweets, and snacks to 40 kids in this area. Father Sameera helped to identify families who were mostly affected by the current economic situation and made sure all the donations and goods made it into the hands of the families who were in dire need of relief during these trying times.
On the 29th of December we visited the church with a bundle of gifts in full of excitement. We sang carols with them and enjoyed some quality time. The kids and their parents were so happy to be a part of it. And we donated used teddy bears for the small kids. We were truly happy to see the smiles on the faces of the children when they received their gifts.
We are grateful for all the donors and sponsors who gave their utmost support. And a huge thanks goes to the organizing committee for making the project a massive success even during these trying times. The team was able to show us the true meaning of Christmas.
“Christmas for everyone” project reminds us of the value of helping individuals who are in need, and that seeing the gratitude on their faces is the biggest gift we can receive.
නත්තල යනු අපි එකිනෙකා සමඟ තෑගි බෙදා ගන්නා, අපගේ පවුලේ අය සමඟ කාලය හා රසවත් ආහාර වේලක් භුක්ති විඳින ප්‍රීතිමත් කාලයකි. නමුත් නත්තලේ සැබෑ අරුත මෙයද? විශේෂයෙන්ම පසුගිය කාලයේ රටේ ඇති වූ ආර්ථික කඩාවැටීම සහ ඉහළ උද්ධමනය හේතුවෙන් සුලු වාසනාවන්තයින් අප අවට ඕනෑ තරම් සිටින බව ද අප අමතක නොකළ යුතුය. බොහෝ පවුල් දුක් විඳිමින් සිටින අතර සමහරුන්ට දිනකට ආහාර වේලක් පවා ලබා ගත නොහැක. දෙමව්පියන් තම දරුවන්ට ලබා දීමට බොහෝ දේ කැප කළද, එය තවමත් ප්‍රමාණවත් නොවන අතර ඔවුන් වෙහෙසට පත්ව සිටිති. නත්තල සැමරීම ඔවුන්ගෙන් බොහෝ දෙනෙකුට සිහිනයක් පමණි. ඒ නිසා, අපට අවශ්‍ය වූයේ මෙම උත්සව සමයේදී අපට ප්‍රීතිය හා සතුට ගෙන දිය හැකි ඕනෑම අවස්ථාවක ඔවුන් වෙනුවෙන් යම් සහනයක් ලබා දීමටත්, නත්තලේ සැබෑ අරුත ජීවත් වීමට වග බලා ගැනීමටත්ය. මෙවර, SLIIT හි රොටරැක්ට් සමාජය අඛණ්ඩව 4 වැනි වරටත්, බොහෝ දුරට නොසලකා හැර ඇති අවශ්‍යතා ඇති ප්‍රජාවන්ට උපකාර කිරීමේ එකම අරමුණ ඇතිව “Christmas for everyone” ව්‍යාපෘතිය සංවිධානය කරන ලදී.
“Christmas for everyone” සමඟින් අපි අවධානය යොමු කළේ මොරටුවට නුදුරු ලුනාව ප්‍රදේශයේ අවශ්‍යතා ඇති ප්‍රජාවන් වෙතය. ශාන්ත පීතර සහ ශාන්ත පාවුළු දේවස්ථානවල පූජක සමීර පියතුමාගේ සහය ඇතිව මෙම ප්‍රදේශයේ ළමුන් 40 දෙනෙකුට ලිපි ද්‍රව්‍ය, රසකැවිලි සහ කෙටි කෑම වර්ග බෙදා දීමට අපට හැකි විය. වත්මන් ආර්ථික තත්ත්වයෙන් වැඩි වශයෙන් පීඩාවට පත් වූ පවුල් හඳුනා ගැනීමට සමීර පියතුමා උදව් කළ අතර, මෙම දුෂ්කර කාලවලදී සහන අවශ්‍යව සිටින පවුල් වෙත සියලු පරිත්‍යාග සහ භාණ්ඩ ලබා දීමට වග බලා ගත්තේය.
දෙසැම්බර් 29 වෙනිදා අපි තෑගි රැසක් රැගෙන පල්ලියට ගියේමු. අපි ඔවුන් සමඟ කැරොල් ගායනා කළ අතර හොද කාලයක් ගත කළෙමු. එහි කොටස්කරුවන් වීම ගැන දරුවන් සහ ඔවුන්ගේ දෙමාපියන් ඉතා සතුටු විය. ඒ වගේම අපි පොඩි ළමයින්ට පාවිච්චි කළ ටෙඩි බෙයාර්ස් බෙදා දීමට හැකි විය. දරුවන්ට තෑගි ලැබෙන විට ඔවුන්ගේ මුහුණේ සිනහව දැකීමෙන් අපි ඇත්තෙන්ම සතුටු වුණෙමු.
උපරිම සහයෝගය ලබා දුන් සියලුම පරිත්‍යාගශීලීන්ට සහ අනුග්‍රාහකයින්ට අපි ස්තූතිවන්ත වෙමු. තවද මෙම දුෂ්කර කාලවලදී පවා ව්‍යාපෘතිය දැවැන්ත ලෙස සාර්ථක කර ගැනීම පිළිබඳව සංවිධායක කමිටුවට විශාල ස්තූතියක් හිමි වේ. නත්තලේ සැබෑ අරුත අපට පෙන්වා දීමට කණ්ඩායමට හැකි විය. “Christmas for everyone” ව්‍යාපෘතිය අපට මතක් කර දෙන්නේ අවශ්‍යතා ඇති පුද්ගලයන්ට උපකාර කිරීමේ වටිනාකම සහ ඔවුන්ගේ මුහුණුවල කෘතඥතාව දැකීම අපට ලැබිය හැකි ලොකුම ත්‍යාගය බවයි.

‘அனைவருக்கும் கிறிஸ்துமஸ்’ மூலம், மொரட்டுவைக்கு அருகிலுள்ள லுனாவ பிரதேசத்தில் உள்ள முக்கியமான சமுதாயம் ஒன்றின் மீது நாங்கள் கவனம் செலுத்தினோம். செயின்ட் பீட்டர்ஸ் மற்றும் செயின்ட் பால்ஸ் தேவாலயங்களின் பங்குத்தந்தை சமீரா அவர்களின் உதவியுடன், இந்த பகுதியில் உள்ள 40 குழந்தைகளுக்கு பாடசாலை உபகரண பொருட்கள், இனிப்புகள் மற்றும் சிற்றுண்டிகளை விநியோகிக்க முடிந்தது. தற்போதைய பொருளாதார சூழ்நிலையில் பெரும்பாலும் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட குடும்பங்களை அடையாளம் காண அருட்தந்தை சமீரா உதவினார் மற்றும் அனைத்து நன்கொடைகளும் பொருட்களும் இந்த கடினமான காலங்களில் நிவாரணம் தேவைப்படும் குடும்பங்களின் கைகளில் கிடைப்பதை உறுதி செய்தார்.
டிசம்பர் மாதம் 29ஆம் தேதி உற்சாகத்துடன் பரிசு மூட்டையுடன் தேவாலயத்திற்குச் சென்றோம். நாங்கள் அவர்களுடன் கரோல்களைப் பாடி சில பொன்னான நேரத்தை அனுபவித்தோம். குழந்தைகளும் அவர்களது பெற்றோர்களும் இதில் பங்கு பெற்றதில் மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்தனர். மேலும் சிறு குழந்தைகளுக்காக பயன்படுத்திய பொம்மைகளை நாங்கள் வழங்கினோம். குழந்தைகள் பரிசுகளைப் பெற்றபோது அவர்களின் முகத்தில் சிரிப்பைக் கண்டு நாங்கள் உண்மையிலேயே மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்தோம்.
தங்களின் அதிகபட்ச ஆதரவை வழங்கிய அனைத்து நன்கொடையாளர்கள் மற்றும் ஆதரவாளர்களுக்கும் நாங்கள் நன்றியுள்ளவர்களாக இருக்கிறோம். இந்த கடினமான காலகட்டத்திலும் திட்டத்தை மகத்தாக வெற்றியடையச் செய்தமைக்காக ஏற்பாட்டுக் குழுவிற்கு அன்பான நன்றிகள். கிறிஸ்மஸின் உண்மையான அர்த்தத்தை இந்த குழு எங்களுக்குக் காட்ட முடிந்தது.
“அனைவருக்கும் கிறிஸ்துமஸ்” என்ற திட்டம் அவசியம்வாய்ந்தவர்களுக்கு உதவுவதன் மதிப்பை நமக்கு நினைவூட்டுகிறது, மேலும் அவர்களின் முகத்தில் நன்றியுணர்வு இருப்பதைப் பார்ப்பது நாம் பெறக்கூடிய மிகப்பெரிய பரிசு.
