එකமுதுkama Noor-e- IFTHAR 2026 – When the Sun sets, Unity Rises

What if a meal could build bridges between communities?

What if a simple sunset moment could turn into a celebration of understanding, respect, and unity?

At the Rotaract Club of the SriLanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT), we didn’t just imagine it, we lived it through Project එකமுதுkama Noor-e- IFTHAR 2026. Held on 6th of March from 5.30pm onwards at Masjidun Noor Jumma Masjid, Welivita, this initiative transformed an ordinary evening into an extraordinary experience where cultures met, stories were shared and hearts connected over one meaningful table.

The name Noor-e-IFTAR itself carries deep meaning. The phase symbolized the light of gratitude and Togetherness that shines when people came together in compassion and respect. This project was designed not just as an event, but as an experience that would allow participants to step into another culture, understand its values and build bridges of unity through shared human moments. The project was led by the Project Chairs Rtr. Tharushi Gajanayaka and Rtr.Eranga Mendis, whose vision and dedication transformed a simple idea into a meaningful experience. With the support of the organizing team, they created a space where everyone felt welcomed, respected and connected.

As the evening unfolded, there was a quiet sense of anticipation in the air. For many, it was their first time stepping into a mosque, their first time experiencing the spirit of Ramadan. A brief introduction helped everyone understand the meaning behind fasting not just as a religion practice, but as a journey of patience, gratitude and compassion.

Then came the most beautiful moment – The sunset.

In silence and simplicity, the fast was broken with dates and water. It was not grand or elaborate, yet it carries a depth that words cannot fully capture. As the meal was shared something even more meaningful was happening. Conversation began, smiles were exchanged and barriers slowly disappeared. People who arrived as strangers were now sitting together, sharing not just food, but a sense of belonging.

The impact of this experience went far beyond that evening. It created awareness, strengthened friendships and reminded everyone of the beauty of embracing diversity. For many participants. It became a lasting memory, that reshared their perspective on others and the world around them.

එකமுதுkama Noor-e- IFTHAR was not just a project. It was a feeling. A remainder that when we open our hearts, even the simplest moment like sharing a meal at sunset can bring people closer than ever before.
