In a time where climate change and environmental destruction continue to challenge the future of our planet, young leaders are proving that meaningful change begins with collective action. Green Life – Phase 01: Ignite the Million Pound Green, organized by the Rotaract Club of SLIIT, was one such initiative that transformed environmental awareness into a movement driven by innovation, collaboration, and purpose.

Conducted virtually through Google Meet, the project brought together Rotaractors from Sri Lanka and India, including members from the Rotaract Club of Indore Activists, Rotaract Club of Thane North, Rotaract Club of Rudramathi, and Rotaract Club of Akash. More than just an online session, Green Life marked the beginning of a long-term global sustainability initiative with an ambitious mission of producing over one million pounds of oxygen through reforestation, mangrove restoration, and conservation efforts.

One of the project’s most remarkable highlights was the launch of the “Digital Forest Tracker”, an innovative platform developed to monitor tree-planting activities in real time. Through features such as live oxygen tracking, location mapping, and verified data submissions, the initiative introduced a modern, technology-driven approach to environmental accountability.

The session also encouraged participants to research high oxygen-producing tree species, laying the scientific groundwork for the next stages of the project. While Phase 01 focused on awareness, planning, and digital innovation, the upcoming phases scheduled for next year will move toward large-scale environmental action, including mangrove planting, restoration projects, and sustainable community engagement activities.

Green Life was more than a project launch. It was the beginning of a shared global commitment. By combining youth leadership, international fellowship, and environmental responsibility, the initiative demonstrated how small actions, when united across borders, can grow into something truly impactful for the future of our planet.
