රූපවාහිනිය වර්තමානය වන විට ඕනෑම නිවසක දකින්නට හැකි සාමාන්‍ය භාණ්ඩයක් වී අවසාන යි. වර්තමානය වන විට ලොව පුරා මිලියන ගණනින් භාවිතා වූවත් රූපවාහිනිය උරුමකම් කියන්නේ වසර සියයකටත් වඩා අඩු ඉතිහාසයකට බව ඔබ දන්නවා ද ?
ලෝක රූපවාහිනී දිනය ගැන කතා කරන විට රූපවාහිනියේ නිර්මාතෘවරයා ගැන කතා නොකරනවානම් එය මහා හිඩැසකි.
1888 අගෝස්තු මස 13 වනදා මහා බ්‍රිතාන්‍ය කිරීටයට අයත් ස්කොට්ලන්තයේ, ඩන්බාර්ටන් ප්‍රදේශයේදී උපත ලැබූ ජෝන් ලොගී බෙයාඩ් එහි නිර්මාතෘවරයායි.
විසිවන සියවස ආරම්භවන විට රූප පෙට්ටියක් ඔස්සේ රූපරාමු ග්‍රහණය කර නිවසේ සිට එය නැරඹීම සිහිනයක් පමණක්ව පැවති පසුබිමක එම බාරදූර කර්තව්‍යය ඉටුකර ගැනීමට පළමු සාර්ථක පියවර තැබීමට මොහුට හැකිවිය. එයින් ලෝක ජනතාවට රූපවාහිනී යන්ත්‍රය දායාද විය.
1996 දෙසැම්බර් මාසයේදී එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ මහා මණ්ඩලය විසින් නොවැම්බර් 21 වන දින ලෝක රූපවාහිනී දිනය ලෙස ප්‍රකාශයට පත් කරන ලදි. එලෙස එම දිනය ප්‍රකාශයට පත්කලේ මුල්ම ලෝක රූපවාහිනී සංසදය පැවැත්වූ දිනය සිහිකරමිනි. මෙම සංසදය පැවැත්වීමට මූලික අරමුණ වූයේ ලොව වටා සාමය හා ආරක්ෂාව පිළිබඳ ගැටළු සම්බන්ධයෙන් තීරණ ගැනීම සහ මහජන මතය මත රූපවාහිනියට ඇති වූ බලපෑම විශ්ලේෂණය කිරීම සඳහාය.
ලෝක රූපවාහිනී දිනයේ අරමුණ හුදෙක් රූපවාහිනිය නම් වූ විද්‍යුත් උපකරණය ඇගයීම නම් නොවේ.මෙම දිනයේ අරමුණු වන්නේ රූපවාහිනිය සමාජයීය තීරණ ගැනීමේ දී ඇතිකරන බලපෑම වැඩි කිරීම,විනිවිද බාවයකින් යුක්තව අපක්ෂපාතීව නිවැරදි සිද්ධි ජනතාව වෙත ගෙන යාම ආදියය.
මෙම ලෝක රූපවාහිනී දිනය සැමරීමට මෙදිනට අප රටේද විවිධ උත්සව ජාතික මට්ටමින් සංවිධානය කරනු ලබයි.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, he was able to take the first successful steps to accomplish that daunting task in a setting where it was only a dream to capture images through a box and watch them from home. It gave the people of the world the television set.
In December 1996, the United Nations General Assembly declared November 21 as World Television Day. The day was announced to commemorate the day the first World Television Forum was held. The main purpose of this forum was to make decisions on issues of peace and security around the world and to analyse the impact of television on public opinion.
The purpose of World Television Day is not simply to evaluate the electronic device called television but to increase the impact of the Television on making social decisions and to encourage assertive communication and truthful reporting to the Public through the Television.
To celebrate this World Television Day, various festivals are organized in our country at the national level.
